The breakout group viewed dissemination from two perspectives, reflective of how an REU site, conceptually, can be defined: 1. REU as a programmatic intervention for.....(fill in the blank) and 2. REU as an enabler of research.

In addition, tensions were discussed. A key tension is an often prevailing view, from a dossier (tenure) perspective of the REU as a service activity versus a scholarly activity. This viewpoint often. However, it was the consensus of the breakout group that there is opportunity to resolve these tensions
