  • Idea: Expose the REU students to research conducted at the graduate level.
  • Objective: Conduct group meetings with the REU students, the graduate students and the faculty mentor. These meetings not only focus on the research conducted by the REU students but also the research conducted by the graduate students for their MS/PhD as well as the research activities on which the faculty mentor is involved (e.g., review of papers, proposal writing, preparation of a presentation or paper).
  • What works well: Weekly meetings.
  • What doesn’t work well: Undergraduate students are sometimes intimidated at the beginning.
  • Assessment: Interviews conducted at the end of the REU reveal the nature of the experience.
