Information Resources for Study Abroad, contributed by Miguel Labrador, University of South Florida

There are several places where to look for international research and study opportunities abroad. Google gives you many places to look at. One of the best sites I found was the international abroad website. In addition, there is the NSF link for REU Sites: International Science and Engineering. Some universities have their own international opportunities, like Texas A&M and some also have their own study abroad programs -- for example, the University of South Florida’s Study Abroad Organization. In addition to giving our students the opportunity to go overseas, there is also the chance for you to bring international students into your REU Site. This approach, not commonly used in practice, has many advantages and it is not very costly. I have been doing this “Reverse International REU Experience” for five years now with very good results. The paper “Enhancing the Global Perspective of REU Site Students” by Cesar Guerrero, Miguel Labrador and Rafael Perez, in Proceedings of ASEE 2007 Media:IntREU_ASEE.pdf, documents this experience.
