Integrated graduate student and REU student research contributed by Wenjun Zeng, University of Missouri - Columbia

Idea: integrated REU student research with graduate student research
Objective: better research environment, increase the chance of success with measurable outcome (e.g., publication), increase confidence and sense of accomplishment of REU students.
What works well: Get graduate students involved in preparing the REU research project (team project preferred), preferably as part of their on-going research problems, make them take some ownership and serve as the graduate student mentors. Graduate student mentors can continue to coordinate the project with REU students after the summer session ends (e.g., when REU students from own institution can continue the research during the semester), or take over the project and integrate with their own research.
What doesn't work well: N/A
Assessment data: pre and post survey data, feedback from faculty mentors, publcation
