- Idea: Have meetings on the opening day, both for the entire group and in small research groups, to define and describe how research works.
- Objective: Give the students an idea about the nature of research.
- What Works Well: This traditionally has given the students an idea about the open-ended nature of research.
- What Doesn’t Work Well: Some students don’t really understand the open-ended nature of research problems until they actually spend some time researching.
