From CISEREUPI
- Idea: Prepare students for a doctoral degree; many students do not know what kind of jobs they can get by having a PhD and how they can differentiate themselves from students with only a Masters’ degree
- Objective: Preparing students for an academic career
- What works well:
- Presentation of role models in academia
- Presentation on different types of jobs with a PhD and the steps of becoming a full professor (PPT presentation on this topic; MedIX site at DePaul University offers this presentation during the first two weeks of the program)
- Presentations by researchers from industry labs
- What doesn’t work well: N/A
- Assessment data: Student surveys showed that many students do not know that the differences between teaching versus research institutions and about possibilities of having a research job in an industrial research lab
