REU Students Participating in Summer Program for High-school Girls, contributed by Michel Cukier, University of Maryland
From CISEREUPI
- Idea: A networking event between REU students and high-school girls.
- Objective: 1. Show high school girls the types of research that undergraduates can become involved in, 2. Give REU students the opportunity to share their research to a non-technical audience 3. Build networking skills for REU students and high school girls, 4. Give REU student role modeling experiences.
- What works well: High-school girls enjoy the interaction with undergraduate students.
- What doesn’t work well: Unsupervised (use a facilitator).
- Assessment: Surveys at the end of the REU reveal the interest of this activity.
