Workshop with Librarians and Introduction to Research Tools, contributed by Stephen Huang, University of Houston
From CISEREUPI
- Idea: Workshop covering the following topics: Use (Google) search engine effectively, searching and downloading electronic publications through library subscription to databases, Using EndNote on the Web or on a PC, subscribe to alerting services to receiving updates.
- Objective: Teach students how to search and access electronic information on the Internet and organize their references to create bibliographies.
- What Works Well: Hands-on exercise (on PC with Internet connection) during the workshop is a necessity for the workshop. It is better to have a Computer Science Librarian do the presentation with CS examples.
- What Doesn’t Work Well: Students tend to forget what was taught without some follow up exercises. A clear handout on how to do each specific task helps.
